What neighbors argue about in Germany

A peaceful coexistence with the neighbor is not always easy, especially in Germany. Whether cowbells or garden gnomes: Neighborhood disputes sometimes take absurd dimensions.
Cowbells

Cowbells dispute

Depression and insomnia: For years, a couple in a place near Munich complains about the noise of cows with bells grazing in front of the house. And went to court against the farmer's wife.

Zoff around the dwarf

German garden owners love the colorful journeymen. Some of these porcelain or plastic figures carry a wheelbarrow or hold a lantern. Others are lying on the grass. How many and which of the cute characters the neighbor has to endure, German courts argue over and over again.

Among men

In Bavaria, a man positioned an inflatable sex doll on his terrace so that she looked over to the neighbor. He called outraged the police. After the officers left, the man did not remove the doll - he just turned it toward his own property.

The chainlink fence

The TV show "Judge Barbara Salesch" in 1999 was about a real arbitration case: A woman in Saxony complained about the Knallerbsenstrauch the neighbor (see photo), which damage their chain link fence. TV entertainer Stefan Raab then made a song from the absurd story that became a hit.

With fire against rats

No question: There are different ideas of cleanliness, but must therefore reach for the match right now? In 2017 it became too colorful for the neighbor of a bakery in the eastern German city of Bautzen. The elderly woman spotted rats in the yard. On the other hand, she wanted to do something and set fire to the bakery. Even though it was about more cleanliness, the woman had to go to jail for arson.

border crossing

As banal as the reasons appear, some neighborhood disputes end fatally. In southern Germany, a man shot his neighbor in 2013 after the two row house owners had argued over the property boundary. Every year, the German media report on people killing their neighbors. Sometimes it is about as little things as garden gnomes, cowbells or sex dolls.
